2004 Workshop System-wide workshop In Spring 2004, we conducted a workshop designed to foster a community of educational researchers, CS education research faculty, and CS teaching faculty collaborating on CS recruitment and retention research. Our workshop evenly balanced skills development, collaborative brainstorming and data collection. Fourteen faculty representing nine institutions, eight of which were a part of the California State University system, attended a full day workshop designed to investigate issues related to the recruitment and retention of CS students. Quantitative and qualitative data support the conclusion that the participants engaged in meaningful exchanges of information, derived new understandings about CS educational research, and uncovered important avenues for future investigation into retention of CS students. |
